This file unit consists of correspondence related to Franklin Island Light in Muscongus Bay, Maine received by Benjamin Lincoln, Henry Dearborn and Henry A. S. Dearborn, in their capacities as Superintendents of Massachusetts Lighthouses, collateral to serving as the first three Collectors of the Port of Boston. The correspondence relates to funding the construction of the light, the appointment of a lighthouse keeper, and expenses for supplies and the keeper’s salary. Included are letters from Treasury Secretary Albert Gallatin, Lighthouse Keeper John Lowell, and Waldoboro Customs Collector J. Farley.
